For a hiring manager, you are as good as your resume says. A hiring team does not know you personally yet, they have just met you on the paper. That paper either guarantees you land an interview or it is going to be deleted. Also, it might be saved for the worst-case scenario. You do not want to hit that category. Realize its importance
This one might sound a bit strange, however, sometimes the resume part is taken indeed for granted. With increased access to the information and solid network built, one must simply make a Facebook post letting his/her community know that there is a perfect candidate for a certain position. Or, there is always LinkedIn that might land a job for the seeker. Even Instagram offers big chances for the positions to be filled.
However, a resume is still a key part for a high-profile company to consider a candidate. The way it is compiled and the content it has can give a pretty clear picture of the one that they are going to invite for the interview. Revamp the design
When you update your resume ( and I hope you indeed do) it is not enough to simply renew the content, adding experiences you’ve gained lately, courses you’ve attended, and phone numbers you’ve changed. You must also watch for what’s new with the design tendencies that will win the eye of the hiring manager. Maybe you can use the templates, or turn to the resume creating services and get the one that is up to date. Do not overdo it, of course. Examine your content
No matter how far you have already progressed with your experience, it is reasonable enough to mention the latest one, and the one you are the proudest of. Yes, staying true to yourself, and being honest are important. However, you have to impress the company and too much honesty may shift your chances a bit lower. It is not like you are not saying you’ve had experience in developing java applications, and instead, you were just testing them. This would be a case of lying. Telling the information you consider beneficial is just having your back covered.
Your achievements and educational background are important. Just make sure to place all the evidence for all the things you have mentioned. If there has been some great breakthrough that you have helped your company to achieve you are recommended to provide a reference to that so the hiring manager would see and have a great topic to discuss with you. All the courses that have been attended must be mentioned along with the certification of successful passing. Validity of your educational background and professional triumphs are important for the hiring team to have a base for making a decision.
Also, be mindful about the word you choose. Please, avoid cliches and skip the part where you are a team player and result-oriented. This is hard to prove on the paper and via the talk. Moreover, customize your text with the exact position description. Keywords in the description must be projected on the way you deliver the information since an automated resume sorter might be rejecting the document if it does not have concepts that satisfy the position’s needs.
Hopefully, it goes without saying for you, yet the mistakes should be checked and grammar applied. You are a literate person, don’t let your resume make people think otherwise.
Spice the info up a bit
True contact information, a real place for alma mater, and not made-up people as your references are expected to be on your resume and need no further clarification. The thing is expected and not that exciting. What might add some color is you creatively mention your several REAL strengths in a way that is quite unusual for ordinary resume writing. Also, some detail that makes you indeed special, even if it’s a bit irrelevant and does not cross with a position, however, may provoke heating discussion, that eventually might give the idea to the manager “ Hey if he/she could do that then with that, he/she might make miracles in our department”. Your task is to look for that special thing.
A smartly done resume increases the chances for the job to find you. Your skills, knowledge, and personality will be examined during the meeting. A resume is just your pass to get there and maintain that marvelous image you have created in it.
