The Next Level of Innovative ID Verification.
iDenfy announced another enhancement to its online identity verification and fraud prevention services for businesses that need to verify customers during the onboarding process. Based on the data located in the small chip, iDenfy’s new implementation of near-field communication reading capability provides users with an even safer and quicker verification process.
Until recently, those looking to forge identity documents for criminal enterprises could easily create plastic copies of the authentic documents and manufacture counterfeited documents that naked eyes cannot differentiate from real ones. Today, criminals tend to find new and improved ways for scams. One of the reasons for such change is the global pandemic, which forced businesses to adapt and go digital.
Forged IDs remain relevant on and off the digital world despite such complications. For example, students use fake documents as a social tool to get into clubs, exposing an overall security issue to many industries online as well. An illustrating example is the digital gaming and gambling industry. Without proper identity verification, underage entities can check in to casinos and gamble online.
iDenfy’s team designed enhancements to expose foreign documents and combat this complex issue. The company’s NFC Verification utilizes ePassport’s chip data matched against trusted lists of certificates issued by local, national, and international governmental agencies. According to iDenfy’s Chief Business Development Officer, Darius Sulte, implementing iDenfy’s Near-field communication feature adds another layer of security for those countries where regulations force them to make a video call with an agent.
This verification process with the agent usually included on-camera document bending and showcasing the document security zones against light to verify the document integrity. After agents manually verify digitally presented IDs, they ask to verify the document using the NFC method. If both pieces of extracted data match, the identity verification process is completed.
Even though NFC technology was approved as ISO/IEC standard back in 2003, it was mostly used in touchless payments and gateway security systems. Based on NFC’s characteristics, it replaces the need for customers to enter data manually. That’s why the chip’s data combined with customers’ biometrics make the verification process frictionless and more reliable. iDenfy’s goal was to work on this tested and proven technology to provide a safe and efficient tool for identity verification.
Since today’s users expect great results with a few clicks, the company strived to create a user-friendly solution that would be available to use on any smartphone device. According to iDenfy’s team lead at Mobile Application Development, Viktor Vostrikov, the new NFC verification tool is compatible with Android and IOS 13 devices, which results in an easier user journey and a seamless identity verification.
In addition to the quick and accurate, AI-powered facial recognition systems, iDenfy’s NFC verification allows accessing document verification databases in hundreds of countries. As per iDenfy’s CEO, Domantas Ciulde, this is a huge benefit since NFC technology bridges biometrics data stored in a chip and the identity verification engine in a simple way – by enabling additional validation using facial recognition technology.
With the option to scan multiple data points via Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), iDenfy’s service authenticates the data encrypted in the chip, making it spoof-proof even for advanced fraudsters. The automated process is combined with 24/7 human supervision to ensure accuracy when detecting fraud and fake documents online.
In recognizing the backbone of the iDenfy systems, CEO Domantas Ciulde of iDenfy said, “As always, we are proud of our team who keep iDenfy on the front lines of digital identification. The NFC addition is another step forward as we move to provide our partners with the essential services they need and deserve in the fast-paced digital world.“
