There is always something about the joy of the action in a sports match, the roars of the crowd and the journey towards redemption. All these dynamics can convert a simple sports game to an emotional experience that you connect with at a deeper level.

Some of the best sports movies hold the same energy and reflect it in a way that makes us feel like the players are real, and the outcome actually matters a lot. It’s easy to get so engrossed in the characters of the movie, and when the underdog becomes triumphant, the thrill often equals that of winning a bet in ice hockey betting or any other sport that you enjoy betting on.

It’s no wonder why sports films have become part of Hollywood for the longest time, and many more exceptional blockbusters about sports keep being released year after year. If you’ve found yourself browsing through a movie streaming platform looking for an exciting title to quench your thirst for high octane action on the screen, you don’t need to keep scrolling any longer. Here is a highlight of the best movies about sports and sports stars you can watch today!

1. Rocky (1976)Rocky (1976)

Well, according to most fans, this is definitely the best sports movie of all time. In this 1976 franchise, Sylvester Stallone takes us through an unforgettable performance as Rocky Balboa, a Philly amateur boxer who is granted a surprising opportunity to a heavyweight championship. The raw perseverance of Balboa’s chaotic relationship with his coach Mickey is too thrilling to overlook.

Rocky is the best sports movie ever created, and its immense success led to the creation of four more sequels to Rocky V, which were also smashing hits. No doubt, the Rocky movie series is one of the most epic binge-worthy movie marathons you can indulge in over the holidays.

Mickey Rourke definitely killed this 2008 hit drama playing an aged wrestler attempting to regain his glory as an entertainment icon. Rourke seamlessly captures the solitude and struggle that you have to go through in order to stay relevant if you are way past your prime age.

Rather than the sold-out arena, ‘The Ram’ wrestled in community centers and school gyms, but his passion and dedication for the sport broke all boundaries.  On top of being one of the best sports movies of all time, at its core, it is a film about the struggle to make things right while you can.

To turn the mind-blowing experience up a notch, he climbs it without a rope. If you want to sweat at the edge of your seat, Free Solo is one of the best movie choices you can watch.

Adonis Johnson Creed attempts to follow his father’s footsteps and, in the process, he comes face to face with a famous confidant, Rocky Balboa, who Sylvester Stallone plays. The film is about a sense of identity and Michael B. Jordan’s performance as the discontented, but dedicated lead is an amazing movie.

Next Goal Wins (2014)

In 2001, a tiny American Samoan island endured a 31 – 0 world record defeat at the hands of Australia. The dumbfounding loss destroyed the team, and it made them the laughing stock of their time. But then, renowned legendary coach Thomas Rongen is determined to change that. What awaits him on the island rates as the worst team in the history of football. In spite of the fact that the team is too unfit to play the game, Rongen remains committed to the task. This inspiring movie proves that it is not always about winning but playing the game and relishing the sportsmanship experience to the fullest.
