Horror video games have enjoyed a renaissance over the past few years, and they continue to shock and inspire the latest generation of gamers.

With Halloween around the corner, gamers will be on the hunt for their fix of fear, and software developers will instil plenty of tension with their drama-filled titles. After all, they know what makes gamers tick and they will feed off that.

More interestingly, some of the titles that have taken the PS4 or the Xbox by storm have seen a crossover into other areas of the gaming industry, such as digital casinos. Many gamblers will therefore flock to the leading casinos that take bank transfer to play some of the scariest games, such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill, and they will be able to recreate the special atmosphere supplied by these immersive titles at home.

So, what are the scariest video games then? Well, after some deliberation, we have decided the following 10 to be among the scariest of all time.

Contents

  • Resident Evil 2
  • Unreal P.T.
  • Silent Hill 3
  • Dead Rising
  • Pathologic 2
  • Dead Space
  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent
  • Bloodborne
  • Slender
  • Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2

The Resident Evil franchise has been an undoubted hit for video gamers. Although it might seem like the least scary game on this list, arguably it provided a blueprint for the horror game genre.

Following on from the success of the Resident Evil Revelation, this game came with an HD remake that was made available to those that didn’t own a Nintendo 3DS. The sequel was a great spin-off game that sees an outbreak of zombies and mutant creatures that need to be kept at bay.

Iconic monsters were used to make this instalment scary, and it is a title that is still treasured by gaming enthusiasts.

Unreal P.T.

Unreal P.T.

For die-hard PS4 gamers, P.T. remains a bone-chilling experience. Although gaming developer Konami removed it from Playstation’s digital store, that didn’t stop fans doing everything possible to bring it back from the wilderness.

Unreal P.T. stays true to the original game as it is full of psychological twists and turns. Complete with eerie visuals, it captures the very essence of evil and it is well worth playing.

Silent Hill 3

Silent Hill 3

While it seemed daunting for Silent Hill 3 to follow up on the second entry of this fabulous series, this game was still a tour de force. Here, gamers play as Heather Mason who becomes entrenched in the machinations of a cult.

Silent Hill 3 probes more into the aesthetics of evil than previous incarnations of the game. Its gritty style means it hasn’t lost any of the scare factor.

Dead Rising

This survival game was released in 2006 and like many other titles on this carefully curated list, it spawned a few sequels. The premise of this game is a man trapped in a shopping mall sprawling with zombies.

While that might not sound terrifying at first, it certainly is, and players will be locked in a frenzy of fear when they have to meet certain time limits to defeat special enemies.

Pathologic 2

Pathologic 2

Essentially, Pathologic 2 is a survival game but the historical origins are fascinating as it is set against the backdrop of a declining Russian Empire at the start of the 20th Century.

However, at times, there is something rather cryptic and mind-bending about this game as the main character is ravaged by poverty and he is beset by nightmares that are very surreal and will make you jump.

Dead Space

Dead Space

The original Dead Space certainly delivers on the scare front, especially when you see the game’s character Isaac traipse his way around a spaceship that has been infested with necromorphs.

This game comes into its own in terms of approach to mortal combat, but the sobering venture on board the USG Ishimura will leave an indelible mark on the players.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Being plunged into darkness will rattle even the staunchest video game player. Oh, and being chased by monsters only ratchets up the fear and tension.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent has this sanity mechanic incorporated which increases the longer you stay in the darkness. It had planned lots of other features such as bombs that can blow up walls, but they didn’t see the light of day. Nevertheless, this game is therefore not for the faint-hearted.

Bloodborne

Devised by the creators of the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, things take a sadistic turn in Bloodborne. First unveiled in 2014, the player is tasked with being the hunter and they are responsible for exterminating wolfish beasts that were afflicted with a mysterious disease.

However, as the game unfolds, the beasts morph into other nightmarish creatures and this is something that sticks with you as you play it.

Slender

Slender

This first-person horror game was critically acclaimed and it is centred around the folklore of Slender Man. This title will send shivers down your spine as a man lacking any prominent facial features goes around abducting children in dark and mysterious places.

Set in a dense forest, the Slender Man is very hard to see, and before you know out, you are wrapped up in a tale of terror.

Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion

Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion

Don’t be fooled by the seemingly beautiful mansion. Players are transported into a world of doom as they try to battle their way past a series of ghouls.

While it might not be the most graphically impressive game featured on this list, it is certainly one of the scariest.

How AI Can Improve Responsible Gaming Image source: Freepik.com Artificial Intelligence (AI) has its hands in nearly every facet of life, presently. Frankly speaking, the development of AI makes things easier and simplifies the difficulty of most types of tasks like; using computers, monitoring and forecasting the weather, performing school work, and whatnot. However, one aspect you may have missed is its potential handiwork in casino gambling, and how it can help. Truly, there are several ways that AI influences top online casinos like GG Bet Casino; in marketing, game management, etc. But we'll zero in on how it can improve responsible gaming. How Can AI Facilitate Responsible Gaming? Online casinos take responsible gaming seriously, and always make sure to establish measures that prevent the players from falling into an addiction; or helping them out of it when they do. One way they can double down on this is through AI. Let's see how AI can facilitate responsible gaming. Predict Irresponsible Gambling Behavior Though not yet elaborate, some Artificial Intelligence companies have fashioned technologies to assess gambler behavior. One such one is Midway AI. This company employed trained psychologists to impact the AI's algorithm, in order to prevent irresponsible gambling. The psychologist, by analyzing the typical behaviour of problem gamblers and inputting this data into the algorithm, can predict when a person shows signs of problem gambling and stop it before it escalates. Prevent Addiction The most important way AI can impact responsible gaming is by eliminating addiction altogether. There is no telling how important this is. For instance, the Mindway AI takes cognisance of several gamblers' actions, and can now predict imminent addiction through those behaviors. There are at least three phases of responsible gaming identified by AI; Green (Good), Yellow (Intermediate), and Red (Addicted). Artificial Intelligence can help prevent addiction by catching these behaviors in their development. Detail Online Casinos' Use of AI There are regulations that ensure that gambling companies do all they can to assist in responsible gambling. However, to what extent these online casinos observe this is still unknown. If the use of AI is incorporated into positive gambling, there will be more detailed information about the companies' attempts to curtail irresponsible gambling. Players can then decide which casinos to gamble on, based on this information. Build Trust Between the Casino and Players When a company shows transparency in handling problem gambling issues, it increases the confidence of gamblers in such a casino. Players who know that a casino is genuinely keen on helping the cause of responsible gaming will flock to that casino. AI's inclusion in gambling will certainly improve the commitment of other online casinos to responsible gaming, and ultimately quicken every online casino to dabble into AI and irresponsible gambling. Facilitate Self Exclusion Several studies have shown that self-exclusion indeed helps gamblers positively, and saves them from the consequences of irresponsible gambling. AI can assist problem gamblers in helping themselves. Since it will track their habits, gambling decisions, and iterations, it can show them this data, and elicit a good response from them. AI can recommend these problems early on, and direct problem gamblers to engage in self-exclusion. If this is done, irresponsible gambling could be eradicated to a broad level. Rehabilitation of the Gambler Artificial Intelligence can indirectly contribute to the rehabilitation of someone who has been identified as a problem gambler. When irresponsible gambling behaviors have been identified, it can make recommendations to gamblers to seek help and gamble only when they're sure of themselves. It can also help them correct their spending decisions, all to an end of gambling responsibly. How Realistic is AI in Responsible Gaming? AI has not yet taken flight in online casinos, despite its presence. It's even less involved when it comes to the matter of responsible gaming, as most gambling companies are more concerned with using AI in marketing and product development. Still, this doesn't mean that it is not used at all. To date, there are only a few online casinos that use AI for responsible gaming, and the venture is not yet regulated. However, in due time, using AI for responsible gambling will become the order of the day in online casinos. Conclusion Based on the utility of AI listed above, it goes without saying that it is crucial in facilitating responsible gaming. While there's still a long way to go in achieving this, the little progress that has been made is noteworthy, and it's safe to say that due to AI, responsible gambling can be generally achieved.
