If you have a smartphone, chances are you play mobile games in your free time. While playing your favorite games on the go is one of the best things about owning a cell phone, you’ve probably also had to deal with frustrating performance issues from time to time. Tweaking your phone’s settings can go a long way toward improving your mobile gaming experience. Keep reading to learn about how you can optimize your phone for gaming.

Turn Off Notifications

Whether your play poker on mobile or Fortnite, nothing interrupts an immersive gaming experience faster than a pop-up notification. Turning off notifications is an easy way to enhance your gaming experience.

Swipe open your phone’s home screen and tap the do not disturb icon to silence notifications. You can make exceptions for calls to ensure people can still get in touch with you in an emergency.

Another option is to block alerts from specific apps, which you can do inside your phone’s settings. If you want to quiet WhatsApp or Messenger notifications while playing a game but allow SMS to reach you, this is your best option.

Create More Space

How to Optimize Your Phone for Gaming

You’re probably thinking you bought a phone with a certain amount of memory, and there’s no way to expand it. While that may be true, you can do certain things to reduce the amount of clutter taking up precious space on your phone.

One of the easiest ways to save space is by deleting pictures from your phone. If you’re wondering what to do with the photos taking up all that precious memory, you can store them using a cloud service like Google Photos or DropBox.

Besides pictures, you can uninstall apps you no longer use to free up space on your phone.

Enable High-Refresh Displays

Most new Android phones come with the option of enabling high-refresh displays, which makes on-screen motions appear smoother because the screen updates images faster than with the average display.

This trick won’t work for all games, but it’s a good idea to activate it so you can enjoy it in the games where it works. Look for refresh rate or motion settings in the settings menu to activate this.

Use a Game Booster

Before you decide it’s time to upgrade your Android phone, you should test out a game booster to see if it improves your gaming experience. Samsung devices have a built-in Game Plugins app to boost your phone’s performance while gaming.

All you have to do is launch the app and ensure Game Booster Plus is activated. The app has many options to customize optimization for specific games, including battery saving, high quality, and max FPS.

Buy a Controller

Depending on the type of games you play on your phone, the average touch screen may not cut it. If you play anything other than casual games, consider investing in a game controller that attaches to each end of your phone.

When you attach these controllers, you can hold the entire system in your hands, similar to the Nintendo Switch experience. There are several options available, and your hands will thank you.

Increase the Screen Refresh Rate

If you want to improve the visuals while playing video games on your phone, increasing the screen refresh rate is the best way to do so. When the screen rate is higher, you’ll get smoother animations, making it one of the easiest ways to boost your phone’s performance.

You won’t have the option to do this on all phones, but the flagship models of the most popular brands, like OnePlus and Samsung, have the option to change your screen refresh rate. Changing this to the highest rate your phone offers will significantly improve your game’s visuals.

Use the Fastest Internet Connection Available

As you already know, the speed of your internet connection can make or break the performance of games on your phone. When you play online games, your phone sends and receives data constantly. If you have a slow internet connection, it takes longer for your phone to transfer this data, ruining your gaming experience.

You can ensure a smooth gaming experience by using the fastest internet connection possible when playing games. Sometimes Wi-Fi will be your best bet; other times, your mobile data connection will be better. Keep in mind that your home Wi-Fi network is typically better for playing multiplayer games.
