Confining your puppy, or any pet, isn’t their best wish, but for safety, it is the only option. Introducing a pen or crate is a significant aspect, especially during vaccination stages, puppy potty training and long-term settlement training in the playpens. Unfortunately, puppies aren’t patient and require frequent potty breaks and playtime. Pet owners can invest in quality, configurable, pet-friendly playpens to provide comfort and break the monotony.

Puppies are particular in their sleeping area and rarely use it as a potty spot. To keep the dog’s standards, having configurable pens like Lucidium pens from renowned brands such as clearly loved pets will easily help set the potty section.

Selecting a flexible pen provides room for roaming, sleeping, and eating areas. The playpen should have easy access and handles for easy cleaning and movement. Once you establish a proper playpen, the training process is seamless for both the pet and you.

Factors to consider before starting potty training

1. Right puppy pen confinement area

Potty training works with a thread of multiple features, the right pen and a comfortable area. Before confining the puppy, analyze the areas that they like around the house. They may have a favorite spot for potty or hiding. To ease the training process, set the pen at a specific spot. This dismisses the hassles of reminding the pet of its pen area.

After establishing the location, get the right pen size for your puppy or pet. One should consider the height, size and weight. Sometimes a slightly bigger pen is better as pets grow fast and may require a playroom. Since the puppy is familiar with the favorite spot, place fabric pads or pee pads on the potty area to avoid messing the floor.

2. Timeframes

It’s advisable to record your puppy’s potty frequency; this gives you an idea of when they are likely to potty. One can keep weekly or monthly records to see whether the pet repeats the same routine. However, one should be open to potty accidents, which will change as they learn. The records can be classified as follows:

ü  10 to 20 minutes after waking up

ü  5 minutes after a meal

ü  After nap time

ü  After a walk and playtime

ü  When excited or anxious

ü  In the middle of the night

The timeframes are higher for young puppies but change as they grow older and learn bladder control.

3. Rewards

Puppies tend to notice the affection they receive from their owners. Suppose they potty at the right spot of the playpen. It is only best to reward them by giving them free roaming time. Let the pet or puppy know if they use the correct potty area; they get freedom. However, it should be restricted to avoid messing up. The reward process also applies if the pet soils the wrong spot. Don’t harshly punish it but make it clear by not providing the privileges they receive.

How to break the pen monotony

Pets have feelings and may outgrow their favorite spot. A change will be an excellent idea for the pet; this allows them to learn about different locations. It also eliminates curiosity since the pet or puppy will have an idea of different sections of the house. To break the monotonous routine, sleep, potty, play, stay, etc.

Pet owners can invest in two playpens, a permanent pen with a crate, an eating area and other essential details. The other should be moveable and best for outdoor activities. One can search for pens with removable parts, sliding door handles, covers and safe walls (mesh or glass). However, don’t leave the pet unsupervised in a portable pen; most are lightweight and could flip over.

Conclusion

Pets are pretty adorable and learn tricks fast. However, they can be fussy if not treated right. To ensure comfort, provide a spacious pen. This helps designate the potty area far from the sleeping and eating spot, thus keeping the space clean.
