We have all been in a situation where we are not sure what is happening with our computer and nothing we try seems to fix the problem. Those random crashed, system slowing down, and all other things that will tick you off while you are working on something important.
Well, it is all a headache if you are not so well versed with the computer and its programs. In most cases, the problem will be because of something called the IDP.Generic. Not many users can find it, in some cases, even antivirus software cannot recognize this file.
So it is safe to say it a needle in a haystack and unless you find it, it will prick you at one point or the other.
What is an IDP.Generic?
IDP or identity protection is a virus that the other person steals your info like your bank statements, emails, passwords, and whatnots. The problem comes when you try to identify the virus file and remove it. The file is mostly saved under the name with a .exe extension.
This way you may not be able to identify the virus and it will fly right under the radar. Sometimes, the file might also be saved under a system file so it is a risky job to delete these files even if you identify them.
Because of such conditions, it is commonly known as the trojan. It gets into your computer and works on the things that it’s meant to be. In most cases, it is to access personal information that is valuable in many ways. On the other hand l, such viruses can also be used to crack software that you use and use them for their benefits.
The virus also gives you trouble by downloading third-party software without your knowledge that can hard your computer. You may also find lag or the slowing down of your computer or your program gets interrupted midway and crashed. All this is due to the virus that has been implanted on to your computer.
There is more than one way to identify this problem and remove the virus that is causing this trouble. Here is how you do it.
How to identify IDP.Generic virus?
Traditionally there are two major routes by which you can find this virus in your computer. One is the manual way where you will have to check all the program files in your computer and identify them.
You can do this by looking at the names of all the files along with their extension and find the one that is most suspicious. Here are some common file extensions that you might want to look at if you wish to do it manually.
- Win32:OnLineGames-AB [Trj]

One thing to keep in mind while using software is that the software may not be able to identify these virus files in some rare cases. This is due to the fact that all these IDP.Generic files are stored under a program name and the anti-virus may take it to be a system file.
On the other hand, you are in a position where the anti-virus software will pin a regular system file to be an IDP.Generic file. By doing so, the computer will force close these programs so as to protect your system from experiencing any external threats.
When such a condition occurs it is known as false positive where a positive file is wrongly accused to be a false virus file. No matter the case, if your system is experiencing
- lag while the program is running,
- random resource usage,
- frequent BSoDs,
- increased network usage,

- shows up ads that you are in no way connected
