Xiaomi’s latest MIUI user interface, MIUI 10, was unveiled last week in China and has since only rolled out to selected devices in the form of Closed Beta versions. At the Redmi Y2 launch event today, Xiaomi announced the global rollout of the MIUI 10 Beta ROM. The update will roll out for multiple devices, says Xiaomi, all of which are expected to get the update by the end of this month. The Beta update starts rolling out in the middle of June for Mi Mix 2, Mi 6, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 5s, Mi 5, Mi 4, Mi 3, Mi Note 2, Mi Max 2, Mi Max, with the second, third and fourth sets to begin in a couple of days time.
As you can expect, the MIUI 10 brings new user interface, faster app launching speeds using system-level AI integration, one-touch full-screen gestures, much-improved notification centre, nature sounds and ambient noise, AI portraits for a single camera. There is also included a new driving mode with voice control, and brand new multitasking management for taller display phones, as well as a handful of other features exclusive to India (Read them below). Also, the software will come with new security updates.
As for the India-specific features, Xiaomi has introduced quick menus in messaging, and new progressive web app (PWA) support that makes use of Flipkart, OLA, OYO and other services in the Mi Browser just like you would use standalone apps. Instead of opening Paytm app, you now scan Paytm QR codes directly in the camera app. There you have an option to play songs and videos in your native language in Mi Music and Mi Video apps. There’s a lot of localized content and local services for Indian users in MIUI 10.
