OnePlus has finally taken the wraps off the long-awaited OnePlus 6 at a launch event in London. The handset, which aims to offer flagship specs in a premium looking design, will be available in Mirror Black and Midnight Black colours initially, but the company promised to bring Silk White variant in the coming weeks.
As numerous leaks had suggested, the OnePlus 6 is the first OnePlus smartphone to get a notched screen. Just like the recent flagship phones, the device follows the trend for thin bezels and more screen, with the 19:9 aspect ratio measuring 6.28 inches. It is also the first OnePlus phone to feature the Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and the 6GB version comes with 64GB of internal storage, while the 8GB model comes with either 128GB or 256GB of onboard storage. The phone runs OxygenOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and has a 3300mAh battery with dash charging support through USB-C port.
There’s also vertically stacked dual-camera setup on the rear positioned centrally towards the top, with the LED flash, fingerprint sensor as well OnePlus logo below. The primary camera is a 16MP RGB sensor with f/1.7 aperture, while the secondary unit is a 20MP monochrome shooter with similar f/1.7 aperture, so it’s a similar setup to what we’ve seen on phones such as the OnePlus 5 and 5T. But this time around, the company uses the IMX519 sensor as primary sensor and IMX376K for the secondary sensor. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera is a 16MP (IMX371 sensor) with f/2.0 aperture and offers portrait mode and facial unlocking. Other Camera features include OIS, EIS, and Super slow-mo video at 720p as well as 240 fps at 1080p.
The OnePlus 6 boasts the glass back ever found on a OnePlus flagship, and it’s also featuring a thin layer of film underneath the glass to create a sense of depth as shadow and light move on the device. Both the front and the rear of the OnePlus 6 is covered in Gorilla Glass 5 and comes with five printed layers of Nanotech Coating for water and dust resistant. Other notable design changes include the alert slider has moved to the right side of the phone, above the power and lock key, with the SIM tray moving to the left, above the volume rocker.
The OnePlus 6 also comes in Midnight Black version which also has a glossy back, but with a matte finish. The Silk White limited-edition, on the other hand, uses pearl powder to create a subtle shimmering effect. Connectivity options on the device include Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a 3.5mm audio jack.
