Xiaomi has been dominating the Indian smartphone market for a while now, and today it’s aiming to continue this regime with the introduction of the Redmi 5A smartphone. The affordable handset has only been available in China so far but has now also made its way to India. However, it’s a very similar product to Redmi 4A released a couple of months ago.

The Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display with the pixel density of 296 PPI. You’ll find the Snapdragon 425 Quad-core chipset under the hood along with 2/3GB of RAM. There are 16/32GB of storage available, but you do have the option of expanding it for an additional 128GB with a microSD card.

Redmi 5A features a 13MP primary camera with a f/2.2 aperture as well as a selfie snapper that has a 5MP sensor. It packs a 3000mAh battery, has a metallic matte finish, and runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with the company’s MIUI 9 on top. Further, the Redmi 5A comes with an Infrared sensor and a combined microSD/SIM tray that allows you to use a microSD card as well as two SIM cards.

Overall, the Redmi 5A is a decent phone that looks to give budget-minded folks a value for money product. Speaking of which, the Redmi 5A will go for INR 4999 for 2GB RAM model and INR 6999 for 3GB RAM model once it goes on sale on December 7. It will be sold in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold colours.

Unfortunately, there’s a catch. After the 5 million Redmi 5A smartphone sales, the company will be increased the price of 2GB RAM model up to INR 1000.
