Samsung, LG, Motorola, Sony, HTC and few others have long been the major brands leading in the Android smartphone industry. However, the tumbling costs of technology and the growth of new marketplaces has opened up opportunities for other new smartphone brands to challenge the well-established brands, with hardware innovations, software, and prices.
The China isn’t the only Asian country to see many low-cost manufacturers crop up lately. We have seen some of the Indian brands also playing well in the segment for a while. Now, India’s largest online retailer Flipkart has unveiled the first smartphone under its own brand, the Billion Capture+. The Capture+ is company’s first ‘Made For India’ smartphone that is designed, engineered, and manufactured in India.
It has a metal unibody crafted to precision and easy-to-hold curves that will charm, along with a perfectly positioned fingerprint sensor on the back. The Billion Capture+ runs on stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system, and also comes with a guaranteed upgrade to monthly security fixes as well as Android Oreo.
Sachin Bansal, Flipkart co-founder and Executive Chairman, has a clear vision about Billion and the Capture+. In his words: “Billion aims to make high-quality everyday products accessible to all Indians who are today limited by choice & budget when it comes to world-class quality. By making these products in India, we will create an impact on both the manufacturing eco-system in the country and the skills of young workers. Doing this in fast-growing, high-tech segments like smartphones will magnify this impact on the nation.”
The Billion Capture+ packs in 13-megapixel dual rear cameras paired with a dual-tone LED flash. According to the company, the dual rear camera works just like the human eye and comes with amazing features such as Super Night mode, Bokeh effect, and Depth-of-field.
