Apple has officially unveiled iPhone 8 series at a Keynote that held at Apple’s new Spaceship campus. The iPhone 8 series packs iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Wondering about iPhone 7s and 7s Plus? Well, Apple has simply decided to skip 7s series for undisclosed reasons. It seems like a pure PR strategy to us as iPhone 8 series is more than an iterative upgrade over iPhone 7 series of devices. You now get beautiful all new glass design that further enables wireless charging capability for the first time in an iPhone. Catch full details below.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus didn’t get that eye popping all-display design, which you found on iPhone X. In fact, these devices are identical to iPhone 7, iPhone 6s and even iPhone 6 series but Apple has added sandwich glass design, so you will see glass front and back on both iPhone 8 models, which are seamlessly integrated using an aerospace-grade 7000 series aluminium frame. Apple says the glass used on iPhone 8 models is toughest in any smartphone out there.
Even though iPhone X sports an impressive Super Retina all-screen OLED display, Apple has decided to stick with tried and true Retina HD displays for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, so you get same 4.7-inch Retina HD display on iPhone 8 and 5.5-inch Retina Full HD display on iPhone 8 Plus. However, Apple has implemented TrueTone display technology into this new generation iPhones, so these displays are capable of adjusting display tint according to the ambient light.
Under the hood, A11 Bionic is back, which is complimented by first ever Apple designed GPU to handle graphical intensive tasks like 3D Games, AR Kit apps, Animoji features. Thanks to the power of A11 Bionic, Apple is able to integrate neural networks into the OS core to perform real-time processing of objects.
Users will find an improved 12-megapixel primary camera on both the models with a larger and faster sensor, deeper pixels and a new colour filter. Apple has also integrated custom designed signal processor that can handle advanced pixel processing, wide colour aperture, and faster autofocus in low light and takes better HDR photos. In addition, iPhone 8 Plus continues to have a telephoto lens to get cool looking Portrait shots. However, Apple has also added Portrait Lighting feature to add studio lighting effects to your photos.
Just like the iPhone X, both the iPhone 8 models are capable of recording 4K videos at 60 fps and 1080p videos at 240fps. Again, thanks to the ultra-powerful A11 Bionic SoC. Additionally, HEIF and HEVC codecs will compress your photos and videos up to 2x, so recording at higher frame rates shouldn’t lead to serious storage problems.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus comes with IP67 water and dust resistance and also supports Qi wireless charging out of the box for the first time.
